Less is More

(aka the real reason your email gets opened)

Most email clients will display the first few sentences of what you write to entice the reader to open.

<aside> 💡 Preview Text: Use this as an opportunity to stand out. What keywords or names are going to catch their attention? When in doubt: Get straight to the point.

Names of colleagues, or mutual connections, can be a great way to maximize the chance of catching their attention.

Some email sending tools allow you to differentiate your preview text from the first few lines of the email. Don't do this. It creates a jarring experience for the reader. Create an experience that flows from the first line to the end of the email.

By keeping subject lines short, you maximize the amount of preview text shown.
